Following the police decision not to renew the dispersal order under the Antisocial Behaviour Act, which has been in place at the Beach Boulevard since March, Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald highlighted its success over the last six months.
At the public meeting held last year it was clear the residents would still like the dispersal order to be in place, due to its success. But the Police assured those present that if there is any serious deterioration in the situation, they will look at renewing the authorisation. In the meantime, the Police will continue to commit significant resources to the Beach Boulevard to keep the peace for local residents.
Lewis Macdonald said: "The dispersal order has made a huge difference to the lives of residents in the Beach Boulevard area. The key question is whether drivers will respond to the opportunity to build on positive relations with local residents or whether we will see a return to the bad old days.
"At the meeting held at the Beach Boulevard, local residents all agreed that the situation had improved enormously, but said they were still concerned at the irresponsible actions of a minority of drivers. A long term solution is needed, and Aberdeen City Council must now move quickly to close the Beach Boulevard at night to non-residents. The process of consultation ends on 8 September with only one minor objection from the Beach Consortium submitted to date."
