| Filling the Gap at Foresterhill |
In November Lewis Macdonald officially opened the new 4 million pound Aberdeen Dental Institute at Forresterhill. The opening of the Institute fulfils a long-term commitment and is another important part of our efforts to widen access to NHS dentistry. The institute is expected to provide NHS dental services to 4,000-6,000 patients in the first twelve months as well as emergency treatment to thousands more. Labour is committed to improving oral health and access to NHS dental services. Aberdeen Dental Institute will make a real difference to patients and at the same time all final-year dental students from Dundee Dental School will spend time here in Aberdeen. This may well encourage some of them to begin their careers in the North East.
Lewis Macdonald also recently launched dental student bursaries, which give them additional funding now in return for a commitment to work in the NHS on graduation for up to five years, this will help ensure these graduates are delivering services to NHS patients.
For more information about the NHS salaried service and to obtain an application form, call NHS Grampian Dental Advice Line on 0845 45 65 990.
