Salmond asked to explain views on funding
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald today challenged First Minister Alex Salmond to explain his views on funding for voluntary sector care providers.

Following the cuts in services to vulnerable people provided by Cornerstone and others in Aberdeen earlier this year, Lewis Macdonald asked Alex Salmond for support in encouraging the City Council not to cut back on any more voluntary sector services to vulnerable people.

During First Minister Question Time, Alex Salmond blamed Scottish Executive funding formulas for decisions by Aberdeen City Council to withdraw contracts from voluntary organisations like Cornerstone.

Lewis Macdonald said after FMQs:

'I have written to Alex Salmond today to ask him to spell out his views. If he thinks councils don’t get enough money, will he give them more? If he thinks some councils lose out from funding formulas, will he change them?'

'He has said he values the contribution of the voluntary sector. He has said that these are issues for Ministers, not for councils on their own. If he believes that, he should put his money where his mouth is.'
