| Parental choice killed off by Ministers, says Macdonald |
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald today used a debate in the Scottish Parliament to accuse the Scottish Government of killing off parental choice in Aberdeen schools.
Lewis Macdonald said:
'The plans by the Scottish Government to reduce to 18 class sizes for children in the first three years of primary school by 2011 have already ended parental choice in city schools.
'Aberdeen City Council have told me that the only way they can achieve class sizes of 18 or less is by stopping kids from outwith local catchment areas from attending the most popular schools.
'That was certainly not in the manifesto. It shows that the commitments they made on class sizes were not properly costed or thought through.
'Next month, city councillors will look at proposals for closing and merging schools, and for cutting the school week to four and a half days.
'It has taken the Scottish Government only four and a half months to bring chaos to Scotland`s schools.'
