| Denial over Aberdeen school closures: Macdonald |
Ministers appear not to know that their council colleagues in Aberdeen have commissioned a report that will lead to decisions on school closures in the city before the end of the year, according to Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald.
`There are 22 city schools under threat of closure because of the council's decision to consider closing primary schools operating at less than 60% capacity,`
Lewis Macdonald said today. `I asked Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop today to join me in calling on Aberdeen City Council to go no further with these plans.
`She actually appeared not to know about this very serious development in an authority run by her own party. Worse still, North East MSP and Schools Minister Maureen Watt was with Ms Hyslop on the Front Bench, and appeared not to know about these plans either.
`Administration councillors want to close schools, at the same time as Ministers are calling for smaller class sizes. It makes no sense to close schools when you need more classrooms. Families with children at the schools in question will be astonished that Ministers and councillors do not appear to talk to each other.`
