| Council`s Special Meeting Welcome, Says Macdonald |
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald has welcomed today`s announcement that Aberdeenshire Council is to hold a Special Meeting to review the decision by its Infrastructure Committee to reject the Trump Golf Resort proposals for the Menie Estate.
`This is the right response,' Lewis Macdonald said today. 'Aberdeenshire Council is responsible for the planning process which produced this calamitous decision. It is for Aberdeenshire Council to find a way to put matters right.
'Anne Robertson is right to look at the bigger picture. Martin Ford and those who voted to reject this development have shown an incredible lack of vision, but the North East as a whole will want to see this project taken forward.
'I hope the Council can find a way to overturn the decision of its Infrastructure Committee. In any case, they must act now to ensure that such unrepresentative and unwise decisions are never again taken in the name of Aberdeenshire as a whole.
'In the 1960s and 1970s, Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire had different political loyalties, but both councils acted together to secure the UK hub of the oil and gas industry for the North East.
'It is up to this generation of councillors to show the same vision when presented with another once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.'
