Ministers should be ready to act on Trump proposals, says Macdonald
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald is calling on Alex Salmond to act urgently to get the Donald Trump proposals for a world-class golf resort in the North East back on track.

Mr Macdonald is tabling a Motion tomorrow in the Scottish Parliament which calls on Ministers to deal with any appeal by Donald Trump against the decision to reject his plans as a matter of urgency. This follows rejection of the golf resort proposals last week by the Infrastructure Committee of Aberdeenshire Council.

`Aberdeenshire Council leaders seem to think there is nothing they can do to reverse their disastrous decision to reject Donald Trump's plans to invest in the North East,` Mr Macdonald said today. `They still need to hold a full council meeting urgently to make the views of the whole council clear, and do whatever they can to put matters right.

`At the same time, an appeal to Ministers may well prove to be the only way forward. Donald Trump is understandably reluctant to go into a long and expensive appeals process. I believe the only hope of persuading him to do so is if he is convinced that Ministers will treat an appeal with the urgency it deserves.

`I hope Alex Salmond will recognise the importance of this proposal to Aberdeen city and shire, and that he will agree to fast-track any appeal.`

SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT
MOTION
Date of Lodging: 4 December 2007
Short Title: Golf Resort Development in Aberdeen City and Shire S3M-00971 Lewis Macdonald (Aberdeen Central) (Lab):

That the Parliament deplores the decision on 29 November 2007 by the Infrastructure Committee of Aberdeenshire Council to reject Donald Trump's application to develop a world-class golf resort in the north east; believes that decisions of such strategic importance ought to be taken by all members of a planning authority and determined on the basis of the interests of the wider community and Scotland as a whole; calls on Aberdeenshire Council to act urgently to review and if possible reverse its decision, and calls for any appeal by the developer to be dealt with as a matter of urgency by Scottish ministers.
