Haudagain consultation a sham, says MSP
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald today attacked Aberdeen City Council`s consultation on the Haudagain roundabout as a sham, because Administration Councillors have not given members of the public any option to register support for action on the Haudagain while opposing a Third Don Crossing at Tillydrone.
Lewis Macdonald said:
'Tackling congestion at the Haudagain roundabout is the best way of improving access to the city from the North, whether or not there is a Third Don Crossing.
'When Kate Dean and her colleagues in the last Administration consulted on proposals for a Third Don Crossing, they would not allow people the option of saying that the Council should be upgrading the Haudagain instead.
'Now finally they seem to accept that they need to do something about the Haudagain, but once again they will not allow people the option of saying there should be action on the Haudagain as a better alternative to building a Third Don Crossing and a new road through Tillydrone.
'It is little wonder that the reputation of Aberdeen City Council has fallen so low, when the current Administration will not allow people affected by proposals for major change to say what they think.
'This sham consultation is simply treating people in areas like Tillydrone with contempt. If the Council really wanted to know people`s views, they would offer a range of options, both with and without a Third Don Crossing.
'Instead they have only put three options on the table, all based on the assumption that they will build a Third Don Crossing. That is simply a disgrace. Only weeks after ignoring parents and voting to close schools, Kate Dean and her colleagues are once again failing to treat the people of Aberdeen with the respect that they deserve.'
