| Macdonald welcomes Commission's report |
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald today welcomed the findings and recommendations of the Accounts Commission as part of its Best Value audit of Aberdeen City Council.
Lewis Macdonald said:
`The public hearing held by the Accounts Commission highlighted the lack of understanding in the leadership of the City Council of just how serious the position has become over the last three years, and that it is simply not capable of resolving those problems without external help.
`Today's report from the Accounts Commission says:
that the council should be led by an All-Party Leadership Board;
that it should urgently appoint an experienced new Chief Executive and review the discredited organisational structure put in place since 2005;
that it should appoint an independent expert to review the cuts it has made;
put in place robust and effective scrutiny arrangements;
and bring property disposals under effective control.
`All of these recommendations support the constructive criticism of the present Administration that I and my colleagues have made in recent months. I hope they will now be acted upon with the necessary urgency. In the meantime, the Council should set aside the budget cuts and school closures it has agreed in recent months, until some order is restored from the chaos.`
