| Macdonald secures debate on Aberdeen Council crisis |
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald has secured a debate at Holyrood on the funding crisis at Aberdeen City Council, to be held at 5 o'clock on Thursday 12 June.
His motion welcomes the findings and recommendations of the Accounts Commission, following its recent public hearing in Aberdeen, and looks forward to concerted and urgent action to sort the problems out. The motion to Parliament also highlights the importance of securing the future of schools and services in the city.
Lewis Macdonald said today:
`I am delighted there will be an opportunity for MSPs to hear about and debate the issues in Aberdeen. Many of those affected by service cuts and school closures are angry that their voices sometimes seem not to be heard by those in power, and this will be a chance to get their views across.
`It is also an opportunity for MSPs of all parties to respond, including Ministers. I hope that there will be broad support for the approach of seeking to sort out the mess the council is in, while at the same time protecting services.`
