| MSP says funding should continue for school programme |
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald today praised the graduation ceremony for the Aberdeen Children's University and called for the City Council to continue funding into the project.
Both Donbank and St Machar Primary School pupils participated in the programme which encourages different kinds of learning outwith school hours. If the planned school closures go ahead these will be the last groups to graduate from these schools.
Lewis Macdonald said:
`The children should be congratulated on their achievements. It sends a positive message to children that if they work hard they will be rewarded as they prepare for secondary school.
`The City Council has funded the Children's University from National Priorities Action Fund money since 2004, but they have still to decide whether to keep funding it in the future. If funding priorities change, the Children's University would be at risk.
`This scheme is the first of its kind in Scotland and it is important that funding continues for this worthwhile project.`
