| Macdonald calls on council to support bid |
Aberdeen Central Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald today called on Aberdeen City Council to press ahead with proposals to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) in the city centre area.
A Business Improvement District is one where businesses have agreed to invest in local improvements to boost the local economy and environment.
Speaking before a City Council debate on the proposals tomorrow (Wednesday 13 August 2008) Lewis Macdonald said:
`A Business Improvement District can help to attract shoppers into the city centre and help create jobs.
`Thanks to the leadership offered by John Lewis and other city centre businesses, Aberdeen has an opportunity to take the lead and ensure that we as a city are not overtaken by other cities across Scotland as the destination of choice for businesses.`
Midstocket and Rosemount Councillor Jenny Laing added:
`This is an excellent idea and will bring local businesses and the Council closer together, so they can work in partnership for the good of city’s economy.`
