| Macdonald calls on MacAskill to listen to Grampian Police |
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald today called on Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill to listen to the views of Grampian Police on a range of critical issues affecting Aberdeen and the North East.
Lewis Macdonald said:
'I am glad that Kenny MacAskill has found the time to visit Aberdeen to hear first hand from the Grampian Force about the current problems it is experiencing.
'I hope he will respond to the real pressure facing the police because of the shortage of Police detention cells at Queen Street in Aberdeen and on the recent concerns expressed by the local Police Federation.
'Mr MacAskill could take the opportunity to co-operate with Grampian Police in providing extra cell accommodation and a remand unit for untried prisoners in the city, in advance of the closure of Aberdeen Prison.
'I hope he will also listen to what Grampian Police have to say about the excellent facilities provided by the Designated Place at Albyn House in Aberdeen for dealing with drunk and incapable people, which is till under threat from Aberdeen City Council budget cuts.
'I hope he will tell his Councillor colleagues that Albyn House is too valuable a facility to lose.'
