| MSP calls for defence of important service |
St Fitticks House in Aberdeen is a model the Scottish Government acknowledges as important in assisting in the rehabilitation of ex-offenders - yet the Aberdeen City Council Administration councillors are set to close it down.
The news comes from answers to written parliamentary questions tabled by Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald, after constituents wrote to highlight concerns.
Lewis Macdonald said:
`Yet again we have a Minister acknowledging the good work carried out at facilities in Aberdeen but yet again we have proposals by councillors to close the very same facility.
`The answers by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill are yet another example of Ministers passing the buck and failing to intervene.
`St Fitticks is beginning to follow the same path as Albyn House where on one hand it is praised and on the other threatened with closure.
`I hope Administration Councillors in Aberdeen will listen to their own Ministers, and reverse their plans to cut funding for St Fitticks.
`If the Scottish Government is serious about tackling crime it is time they back schemes such as St Fitticks.`
