Macdonald calls for answers on Business Centre
Aberdeen Central MSP Lewis Macdonald has called on Aberdeen City Council Resources Convener Kevin Stewart to explain why Frederick Street Business Centre is lying empty, more than a year after 27 small firms were evicted as part of the council's plans for new offices in Marischal College.

Lewis Macdonald said today:

`These businesses were forced to move because Kevin Stewart said their premises were needed urgently as part of the Council's 80 million pounds plans to move to Marischal College.

`It now seems they could have been left where they were, because the Council no longer want to use the Frederick Street premises. Apparently they're going to put their IT centre in the car park instead.

`All those businesses deserve a proper explanation from Kevin Stewart of why he got it so badly wrong at their expense. I would imagine an apology would also be appreciated by all concerned.

`I am sure that former tenants will be dismayed to learn that their former trading premises remain vacant, and with no sign of the position changing in the near future.

`Not only have the council hurried small businesses into unnecessary relocations, they have also lost income substantial amounts of revenue from rental charges they can ill afford to do without.`
